Ces structures tectoniques peuvent orienter les \u00e9coulements de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s variable et sont souvent d\u00e9crites par un comportement de type conduit\/barri\u00e8re : une core zone globalement imperm\u00e9able, encadr\u00e9e par une damage zone plus perm\u00e9able. Ces caract\u00e9ristiques permettent aux failles de faciliter l\u2019\u00e9mergence de flux hydrothermaux, de constituer des voies d\u2019infiltration pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentielles, ou encore de compartimenter les aquif\u00e8res. Toutefois, l\u2019influence exacte de ces structures demeure mal d\u00e9finie, notamment dans les aquif\u00e8res carbonat\u00e9s karstifi\u00e9s o\u00f9 l\u2019h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 du milieu, des r\u00e9seaux karstiques et la rapidit\u00e9 des \u00e9changes entre surface et souterrain augmentent la complexit\u00e9 et la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 des syst\u00e8mes.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">L\u2019aquif\u00e8re du Lez, r\u00e9servoir karstique alimentant en eau potable la m\u00e9tropole de Montpellier, a servi de site d\u2019application pour cette recherche. Il pr\u00e9sente une structuration complexe, marqu\u00e9e par plusieurs failles r\u00e9gionales dont de nombreuses pertes karstiques et exutoires principaux co\u00efncident avec ces zones de faille. L\u2019objectif est de caract\u00e9riser le comportement hydrodynamique de ces structures, en mobilisant une approche pluridisciplinaire combinant analyses g\u00e9ologiques, structurales et hydrog\u00e9ologiques, r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9chelles. Ces analyses ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que le r\u00e9seau karstique, qui contr\u00f4le l\u2019essentiel des transferts rapides d\u2019eau dans le syst\u00e8me aquif\u00e8re, interagit \u00e9troitement avec la morphologie et la structure des zones de faille.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle interne, la karstification est principalement contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par certaines familles de fractures ouvertes au sein des damage zones, en particulier celles r\u00e9activ\u00e9es par extension. Ces fractures orientent la formation des drains karstiques, dont le d\u00e9veloppement d\u00e9pend de l\u2019envergure et de la connectivit\u00e9 des structures d\u2019endommagement. Par ailleurs, la core zone, bien que g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement imperm\u00e9able, n\u2019emp\u00eache pas syst\u00e9matiquement le passage du karst : son architecture lenticulaire, son \u00e9paisseur variable et sa composition h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e8ne, h\u00e9rit\u00e9es d\u2019une histoire tectonique poly-phas\u00e9e, g\u00e9n\u00e8rent des zones de faiblesse exploit\u00e9es par le karst pour traverser cette zone.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Cette interaction entre karstification et zones de faille produit des comportements localis\u00e9s de type conduit\/barri\u00e8re. La damage zone concentre la karstification et par cons\u00e9quent la majorit\u00e9 des \u00e9coulements, mais le r\u00e9seau karstique peut \u00e9galement traverser la core zone, r\u00e9duisant ainsi son effet barri\u00e8re. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle de l\u2019aquif\u00e8re, ce sont donc les interactions entre r\u00e9seau karstique et zones de faille qui contr\u00f4lent le fonctionnement hydrodynamique. Ces structures repr\u00e9sentent \u00e9galement des zones privil\u00e9gi\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9changes entre eaux de surface et eaux souterraines, jouant un r\u00f4le majeur dans l\u2019alimentation en eau mais aussi dans la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 de la ressource.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">En int\u00e9grant ces connaissances, cette th\u00e8se a permis de d\u00e9velopper un mod\u00e8le num\u00e9rique semi-distribu\u00e9 capable de repr\u00e9senter \u00e0 la fois la compartimentation induite par les failles et les flux rapides concentr\u00e9s li\u00e9s au r\u00e9seau karstique. Ce mod\u00e8le fournit une base d&rsquo;application pour mieux \u00e9valuer l\u2019impact des structures de faille sur la dynamique de l\u2019aquif\u00e8re et la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 de la ressource. Il offre ainsi un cadre utile pour une gestion int\u00e9gr\u00e9e et anticip\u00e9e des eaux souterraines, en tenant compte des effets combin\u00e9s de la g\u00e9ologie, de la structuration tectonique et des r\u00e9seaux karstiques. Les zones de faille exercent une influence significative et diversifi\u00e9e sur l\u2019organisation des \u00e9coulements souterrains.
